Biocides
JRF Global offers a wide range of services for biocidal products, using its globally integrated network of laboratories to help your product meet any country-specific regulatory requirements.
A biocide is a chemical substance or microorganism intended to destroy, deter, render harmless, or exert a controlling effect on any harmful organism by chemical or biological means.
Biocides are used in day-to-day life at home, in medicine, agriculture, forestry, and industry. Typical biocidal products fall under the following classes; disinfectants, preservatives, anti-fouling agents, pathogen carrying pest control, prevention of ship bottom corrosion etc.
The EU regulatory framework for biocides was driven by the Directive 98/8/EC, also known as the “Biocidal Products Directive” (BPD) till as late as July 12, 2012. The BPD was annulled and replaced by the Biocidal Products Regulation 528/2012 (BPR), with the application date being September 1, 2013.
The BPR now charts the well laid out path several principles, which are in place for the REACH Regulation. Thus the responsibility for risk assessments resides with European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The legislation is fairly close to the Global Harmonized System for Classification and Labeling (GHS), as well as with the OECD program on testing methods. IUCLID is the chosen platform for data compilation and submission for Biocidal product registration.
JRF Global has extensive experience in working with the Indian and Transnational companies for registration of their Biocidal products for global registration effort. Our experienced scientists have the in-depth knowledge and expertise for conducting required Chemistry, Toxicology, Eco-toxicology and Environmental fate studies in accordance with BPR Regulations, under full GLP compliance.
